Membrane electrolysis ReMem

Electrolytic Recovery

Plant description

Metal recovery from process solutions and rinse water with the membrane electrolysis cell ReMem.

The electrolytic reclamation of nickel with insoluble anodes causes oxidation of anions in the solution, which, in the case of chlorides, generates chlorine gas that attacks anodes and other materials. Such ions can be isolated from the anode with suitable ion exchange membranes from Veolia, while still maintaining the current flow. In applications where metal chloride solutions constitute the catholyte, the anolyte on the other side of the membrane is kept chloride-free. The compartment on the side of the ion exchange membrane with the insoluble anode can thus be used as the "insoluble anode" to plate out the metals from concentrated solutions. The ReMem membrane electrolysis cell is suitable for nickel reclamation from chloride solutions; it is also used with applications for the plating of zinc and tin, or tin-lead. This cell is available as a compact system in various sizes.
