KOMPaion VEA-Line

Demineralization Plants

Application

The ion exchanger plants of the KOMPaion-VEALine are used for the generation of demineralised water . This is one of the application of the versatile separation process of ion exchange.
Other kinds of application:

  • Polishing filtration
  • Metal recovery
  • Loop recycling of rinse water

Filtration is a basic requirement for all ion exchange applications. Oil and grease must also kept out of the system; when present, they are typically removed by prior micro- or ultrafiltration. Any particulate matter or products of hydrolysis are retained by prefiltration in multi-media or cardridge filters.

Process Characteristics

The proper selection of ion exchange resins is of importance. Most ion exchange resins in use today are synthetic organic materials made up of macroporous matrix which are able to adsorb ionized substances in solution and release them again in concentrated form during regeneration phase.

The ion exchange resins are filled into fibreglass laminated columns. The feed stream is pumped through the resin bed in up-flow mode.

Description of plant

The plants of the KOMPaion-VEA-Line includes the following assembly groups.

  • Prefiltration (single- or double cartridge filter)
  • Selective ion exchange columns

At the ionexchange plants of the KOMPaion-VEA-Line the advantages of the series train configuration are used, considering the exchanger capacities. The operation of the plant is divided in following main steps:

  • Running: Removal of ions of the city water
  • Regeneration: Activation of the active exchange groups with acid or caustic
